Why are so many families calling for Seamless Childcare?

If your family has school-aged kids in BC, you probably know how tough accessing childcare can be. Across the province, families like yours face challenges finding safe, reliable, and affordable childcare spaces.

Many of those who do have childcare are forced into long commutes and multiple drop-offs and pick-ups throughout the day.

Some parents have to adjust their work schedules, use up vacation time, or turn down work because childcare is unavailable, or too far from home. Others worry about the quality of care in unlicensed care spaces.

Seamless childcare delivers childcare families need in our public schools. That means it takes place in neighborhoods where families need it, and in existing public classrooms already designed with the best interests of children in mind.

Most importantly, seamless childcare is good for kids.

Multiple transitions throughout the day add stress and disruption and can be hard on everyone—this can be especially true for children with diverse abilities. With seamless childcare, there is less time commuting and more time learning and playing, a big advantage for kids!

There are so many benefits to seamless childcare. It would be a giant leap forward in early learning and care, and give our kids the best possible start.

That’s what the Seamless Childcare BC campaign is all about. We’re working hard to support families, kids and workers by encouraging the BC government to expand seamless childcare across the province. Seamless Childcare Now began as a campaign of CUPE BC, BC’s largest union. It has grown and is supported by many organizations, as well as parents, and people like you!
